A few months short of a year ago, a group of my closest friends and I decided to start a book club. We're separated by cities, countries and continents, but we make it work (quite fabulously if I do say so myself). Our weekly discussions flow smoothly and are filled with banter and thoughts about whichever novel we're currently sinking our teeth into. However, the one divide found in our group revolves around the the issue of: HARDCOVER vs. PAPERBACK.
Points in the debate include: feel of a book in your hands; weight; cost; and ease of transport. All valid concerns! But I see it a bit differently. To me, HARDCOVER vs. PAPERBACK is more of a rating, or a measure of love. I know people have different reasons for choosing various book formats, but from my ratings/feelings POV, I'm going to utilise the different forms to rate the books that I review, from highest to lowest, as follows:
5. HARDCOVER level of love: perfect stories that have my favourite characters are found in books that will be re-read countless times, get my precious Eiffel Tower bookplates (merci MCA!), and are worth those extra $$.
4. PAPERBACK level of love: books that I thoroughly enjoyed and will read again. I probably could have waited a couple more months for the PB to save some moolah, but I definitely want to own and have a copy in my pile.
3. EBOOK level of love: I personally lovelovelove the feeling of a book in my hands, so an ebook is the middle of the scale. It was worth purchasing, but I don't love it enough to need a physical copy.
2. LIBRARY LOAN level of love: it wasn't great and I don't need to own it. I definitely wouldn't read it more than once.
1. RUN AWAYYY level of
nolove: fairly self-explanatory. I'd take it off any TBR list. Hopefully there won't be too many (if any) of these. +10 points if you know the movie reference.
Here's a hint. ;)
The scale will look like this when I use it at the end of a review:
I apologise now for my lack of artistic skills.
If we're all on board with that, then I'd say it's just about time to dive into those book piles. Until next time, happy reading!
No matter what the casing, there are always adventures inside.
A/N: I promise the next post will be an actual review (it may or may not include a GIVEAWAY). Keep an eye out for that on Friday. Does this review system make sense? I wanted to do something a little unique, so hopefully it works!! Skipping back to the beginning of the post, if you're not in a book club already, form/find one now! Whether in person or online, it's such an incredible thing to be a part of. Lastly (but definitely not least), to MY book club ladies - Crystal, Jenn, MCA, J, Emma, Joana, Rach, Jess, Tana - you are truly some of the very best people on the face of the earth, and I'm so, so glad we share this. <3
